Retirement - Captain Jeffrey K. DeVere

Captain Jeffrey K. DeVere retired on Feb. 20, 2015, after 25 years of dedicated service to the Washington State Patrol and to the citizens of the state of Washington.

Capt. DeVere's most recent assignment was in the Human Resource Division with two very challenging and potentially opposing tasks: recruiting significant numbers of new employees for the agency while at the same time making sure only the right people get hired. He would give most of the credit to HRD staff and the hard work of his predecessors, but the accomplishments on his watch were many:

- The agency had the highest ever total employment applications in a year, at 4,790.

- 258 Cadets have been hired since Capt. DeVere assumed command of HRD.

- There was a 16% increase in diverse candidates. There was an 84% increase in veterans hired as troopers, and a 57% increase in veterans taking civil service jobs.

- The agency began a decentralized recruiter program.

- The agency implemented the NeoGov online application system.
